Life in Washington DC & The Surrounding Area

The United States is filled with many gorgeous and monumental places to live. From Los Angeles to Miami to New York, there is a lot of history behind this country. One such location that offers tremendous features and a great deal of history is Washington D.C. As a world-class city that attracts new residents from across the globe, the District makes moving here-and feeling at home-simple and convenient. Within this article we will cover everything you need to know about the daily life in the capital region.

The education in Washington D.C. is extraordinary as some of the top schools in the country are located in this area. There are a number of excellent public and private schools that you will be able to choose from.

And if you are like most of us battling the current recession, you will be happy to know there is a plethora of job opportunities just waiting for you to take advantage of. You will be able to choose from small businesses, large corporations, healthcare providers, high-tech industries and much more.

The most well known employer in Washington D.C. is the federal government. However, there are countless other large employers in the region for you to look into. If you are looking employment, some of the larger companies you may want to pursue include Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp, Sprint/Nextel Communications Inc., Lockheed Martin Corp. and Marriott International Inc. It all depends on what you have experience in and what you are interests are.

If you are a family person you will quickly find that there is a wide array of activities that your kids will enjoy in the Washington D.C. area. There is a little something for everyone whether you have little kids or teenagers. The National Zoo (163-acre zoological park) is one of the most kid-friendly places you can visit in the area with over 400 different species of animals.

You can also stop by the National Museum of Natural History to provide your kids with some tremendous knowledge. They will be able to examine artifacts including an 80-foot dinosaur skeleton, a prehistoric white shark and a 45 and a half carat jewel.

If your kids would prefer to just get out and have some fun, Six Flags America is a theme park filled with enjoyment. There are over 100 rides and shows for you to enjoy and if you are looking to have some fun in the sun, it holds the area's largest water park as well. This is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the warm summer and fall.

Whether you are leading the single life or are a parent, you still have to have some kind of social life and Washington D.C. has plenty to offer for nightlife. There is a wide variety of nightlife options to choose from including jazz clubs, comedy clubs, sports bars and karaoke bars.
If you are looking to just get out there and dance, there are many choices of dance clubs within the surrounding area. The 9:30 club offers four separate bars and has the largest dance floor in D.C. The 18th Street Lounge is by far one of the most hopping dance clubs as it offers a different feel being that it used to be a mansion owned by Teddy Roosevelt.

One of the terrific things about the United States is the vast amount of foods and diners that you can experience all over the country. This region certainly does not disappoint with exquisite diners and, gourmet food stores and wineries. You can find tremendous pizza parlors, coffee shops, enjoyable beer pubs and breweries, and some of the finest restaurants right on Capitol Hill.

As you can probably imagine, Washington D.C. offers sightseeing galore. There are several monuments, museums and attractions to visit and they never get old no matter how long you have lived in the region. Some of the more historic buildings in the area include the Mount Vernon Estate that was granted to John Washington, the U.S. Capitol, the White House, and the U.S. Treasury Building.

Outside of the historical buildings, there are several things you can take part in whether visiting or living in the area. Take a stroll through the national monuments at night when they are illuminated and you are in for a treat. You can visit the Smithsonian which will cover a wide array of subjects from art to space exploration. If you are an indoor type of person, check out a show or concert at the Kennedy Center. And if you are an outdoor person, take a hike at Great Falls Park.

As you can see, there is a multitude of activities, information, and history to take part in within the gorgeous and magnificent Washington D.C. region. There are many choices of day trips and getaways you can enjoy for romantic getaways or relaxing days at the beach. There are countless monuments and historic buildings available to check out. Lastly, you will find there is a little something for people of all ages to enjoy whether it is the nightlife for the singles or the zoo for the family. Start enjoying Washington D.C. as it is a magnificent place to live.
